How to use the Vizsla Database

Searching for Dogs

Use the Search → Dogs menu or the quick-search bar in the navigation header to find pedigrees. You can search by registered name, year of birth, sex, country, and more.

Tip: Partial name matching is supported — searching "Freddy" will find all dogs containing "Freddy" in their name.
Heights shown in the search follow the FCI standard (males 58–64 cm, females 54–60 cm). Several registries that register many Vizslas do not use the FCI standard (e.g. AKC, KC, NZKC, CKC use a lower female limit of 53 cm and a male limit of 57 cm), so the under standard / above standard labels may not apply to dogs registered under those bodies.

Dog Profile

Each dog has a public profile with photos, full pedigree (up to 6 generations), inbreeding analysis, and health / DNA / radiologic / competition records.

  • COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) is shown for 5 generations as the headline and as a strip for 4–10 generations to compare depth-dependent inbreeding. Lower is better; under 3.125% is considered low.
  • The pedigree fan goes up to 6 generations with linkable ancestors. Click any ancestor to navigate to their profile.
  • On the search results table, every column header is sortable — click a label to toggle ascending / descending. Use the filter form to narrow by sex, country, year-of-birth range, or hip score.

Test Mating

Test Mating lets you analyse a hypothetical pairing of two dogs before breeding. Pick a sire and a dam (via the name search) and the page computes:

  • COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) — visible to all visitors. COI tells you how inbred a particular pairing's offspring would be; it is an individual measure, not the population-level concept of genetic diversity. The generation-depth breakdown and CR (Coefficient of Relationship) are shown blurred to guests.
  • ALC (Ancestor Loss Coefficient), PCI (Pedigree Completeness), Common Ancestors, Siblings, and Population statistics — requires a login.
  • The generation selector (4–10 generations) and pedigree preview are visible to all but only adjustable once logged in.
Log in for full access to all metrics and depth controls.
Open Test Mating directly from any dog's profile via the Test Mating button — the dog is pre-filled on its sex's side.

Owners & Breeders

Owners and breeders have their own searchable profiles. Visit Search → Owners / Breeders to find a kennel or person.

A person profile lists their kennel name, country, and every dog they have owned or bred. Use the All owned / All bred links for complete lists.

Submitting a Pedigree

Click Submit a Pedigree in the navigation. You can either add a completely new dog or suggest corrections to an existing record. All submissions are reviewed before being published.

  1. Choose New Dog or search for the existing dog you want to correct.
  2. Fill in all available information: name, date of birth, parents, registration number, health data.
  3. Attach proof documents (pedigree scan, stud book entry, photo) — or paste a link to a publicly accessible pedigree page from a registration body — to speed up review.
  4. Submit — a moderator will review and approve or contact you with questions.
Up to three images per dog are displayed, so please do not submit more than three. Images can be attached to your pedigree submission or suggestion, or sent via our Facebook group.

Suggesting Changes

Found incorrect information on a dog's profile? Click the amber Suggest Changes button on the dog's page. Your suggestion will be queued for moderator review. Include a source or proof for faster approval.

You can also suggest picture changes — replace existing photos or add new ones — directly from the suggestion form. Up to three images per dog are displayed; images can also be sent via our Facebook group. Photo-only suggestions do not require a separate proof document; data changes do.
Health Information (test results, DNA results, radiology) is also updated through Suggest Changes. Please note: health or DNA test result certificates that do not include either the registered name of the dog or its registration number cannot be accepted.

Dog Name Format

Always use the registered name without titles or qualifiers. Titles such as CH (Champion), JCH, MJCH, VC, FTCH etc. are not part of the registered name and should be omitted.

Browser Requirements

The database works in all modern browsers. However, for large pedigrees with more than 8 generations, we recommend:

Chrome or Edge — best performance for recursive CSS grid pedigrees.
Firefox — may experience performance issues with very deep pedigrees.

Data Entry Policy

Direct database entries are limited to moderators and administrators. All other users may submit information via:

  • The Pedigree Submission form (preferred)
  • The Suggest Changes button on any dog profile
  • Email to the database administrators
  • The official Facebook Group

This website is for personal, educational, research and non-profit purposes only. Commercial use is not permitted. The database and photos are copyright-protected.

FAQ

How long does it take for my submission to be approved?

Typically 1–7 days, depending on the moderator workload and completeness of the submitted data.

Can I add a dog from any country?

Yes. The database covers Hungarian Vizslas worldwide — wire-haired and smooth-haired.

Why can I not find my dog?

Try a shorter search — only use part of the name. Also check the name spelling against the official registration.

How do I report incorrect data?

Use the "Suggest Changes" button on the dog's page and attach a source document.

Is registration required to search?

No. The search and pedigree viewing are available to all visitors. Registration is only required to submit data.
